On Wednesday 29 January, DCA 1 and DCA 2 class groups visited Microsoft DC. Both class groups had a Site Tour with a presentation session on Careers and how to optimize on your learning journey. Past students of the college, along with other Microsoft employees gave a presentation on their personal learning journey and described how they got their job in Microsoft. The personal stories highlighted the importance of learning and making the most out of every opportunity given. Two of the speakers on the day were past students of Collinstown Park’s Datacenter Academy, Amanda Bailey and Claire Burke. The two ladies are now enjoying their full-time positions as qualified Datacenter Technicians.
Both ladies gave excellent advice. It was also insightful to see the other pathways and courses employees had taken and how they too landed their dream jobs.
It was great to get out of the classroom and experience the real-world view of data centers. Microsoft were fantastic hosts to the group and did everything possible to make the visit a memorable one. There were loads of tips and tech shared with the trainees. Now the trainees are back in class, continuing on their journey and career pathway.
All our thanks to Microsoft's Eimear, Lyndsey, Elena, Eddie, Tommy and rest of the team for making this visit happen.
